Making A Difference

I am extremely grateful for the abundance I have received in life - family, friends, good fortune. My wish is to be able to give back, and make a difference in the lives of others, however small.  I will donate 5% of my net jewelry sales to Heifer International, www.Heifer.org, and to Feeding America, www.FeedingAmerica.org, (formerly known as America's Second Harvest). The fact that children in our country, and around the world go hungry in a world of abundance is unacceptable. There are numerous causes that are dear to me, but easing hunger and encouraging peace have always been priorities. Your purchase will do more than put a smile on your face, or that of the recipient - a child or family will benefit as well - actually the whole world benefits. It's a win/win situation! My family ends our dinner prayer by wishing, 'May everyone in the world go to bed with a full stomach, and wake up with a full heart."

Here's information about Heifer International from their website -
"In FY2007, Heifer had 867 active projects in 53 countries/provinces and 28
U.S. states. Heifer projects around the world help families achieve self-reliance through the gift of livestock and training. Gifts are passed from recipient to recipient until entire communities are transformed."

Here's information about Feeding America from their website -

"Feeding America is a Network - Our organization is made up of individuals, local food banks, national offices, as well as corporate and government partners. Together, we are bigger, better, stronger and more efficient than the sum of our parts. Working as a cohesive system is the only way we can truly solve the hunger crisis."

Please check out both the websites if you're curious about the programs, and wonder what else you can do to help - there are numerous ways to lend your support. Thanks!

"Peace, in the sense of the absence of war, is of little value to someone who is dying of hunger or cold. It will not remove the pain of torture inflicted on a prisoner of conscience. It does not comfort those who have lost their loved ones in floods caused by senseless deforestation in a neighboring country. Peace can only last where human rights are respected, where people are fed, and where individuals and nations are free."

~ The XIVth Dalai Lama
